This Augmented Prototyping project is part of the minor Advanced Prototyping from the Technical University Delft.
In this project we aim to create a scaffold structure for cartilage, and as ultimate goal (in about 4 years) to print cartilage for re-constructive surgery.
Human tissue is composed of various elements, they obviously consist of cells, but it is the matrix between the cells (the extra cellular matrix or ECM) that defines the mechanical characteristics of the tissue. Each specific tissue has a different EC structure.
In this project our goal is to find and reconstruct this cellular matrix for cartilage and translate it into a standard geometry pattern, so that it can be used for printing cartilage for re-constructive surgery and other uses.
